KARACHI, Nov 5 (APP): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali has said that there are many economic avenues available in Sindh province for profitable trade and investment.This he said while talking to the Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Andrey S. Budnik, who called on him at the CM House here on Tuesday. Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that his Government would welcome investment by any country including the Russian Federation. He said that at present we are focusing to cover energy deficit by utilising our indigenous resources such as coal and the strong wind corridor. Chief Minister said that energy is essential for the industrialisation and utilisation of agro production efficiently. He said that after 18th Constitutional amendment, provinces have been empowered to enter into agreements of trade, investments with any country and utilise the resources on their own. Consequently, the Sindh Government has made many MoU’s with different interested countries especially with Russia and are working on many projects of coal- based and wind- based energy. He said that Pakistan has old relations with Russia, especially since when Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was in power and got a big significant project of Pak Steel Mill from Russia. He said that during PPP’s last tenure of Government, the then president Asif Ali Zardari visited Russia in 2011 and entered into various MoUs for economic cooperation between both the countries. He said that we also need investment in infrastructure and mass transit, specially in urban and rural areas and any investment by the Russian Federation will be welcomed. The Ambassador of the Russian Federation said that Pakistan possesses an important and strategic economic position in the region. He said that Russian Federation can make its investment specially in modernisation and reconstruction of power plants and other infrastructure. However he emphasised upon the exchange of delegation and communication between Sindh province and the Russian Federation to explore the opportunities of investment and strengthen the bilateral relations. Secretary to CM Naveed Kamran Baloch was also present in the meeting.
