KARNATAKA STATE TRANSPORT AUTHORITY The KSTA is constituted under sub-section (1) and (2) of section 68 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 (Central Act 59 of 1988) vide Notification No. FTD 4 TMA 93, Bangalore, dated 16-01-1993 by appointing the Commissioner for Transport as the Chairman, Inspector General of Police & Commissioner, Traffic & Road Safety and Superintendent Engineer (Designs), Inland Transport and Ports, P.W.D are the Members of KSTA, Bangalore. The State Transport Authority also consists of one non-official member appointed by the Government. The Karnataka State Transport Authority has got powers to grant All India Permits for Tourist Vehicles (Buses), Motor Cars, Maxi cabs, Inter-state permits for stage carriages and also Goods carriages as per the Inter-State Agreement. It has power to take action under section 86 of the M.V. Act 1988 to suspend or cancel permit for violation of any condition of the permit. An applicant who desires to get any of the permits indicated below has to comply with the following :- SL. No. Category of permit Appln to be filed in form Fee to be paid Rs. He also should produce the R.C. Book, Fitness Certificate, Insurance Certificte, Tax Card and Pollution under control certificate. In respect of applicant who seek variation of permit has to file form KMV 36 A along with the fee of Rs. 600/-. He also should produce the R.C. Book, Karnataka State Permit, Fitness Certificate, Insurance Certificte, Tax Card and Pollution under control certificate. In respect of all the above cases the permit holder has to pay Bilateral tax to the concerned states. In addition to the home state tax that is being paid.
