KASHMIR IMBROGLIO? HOW LONG SHALL WE SUFFER??? Kashmiris have always faced discrimination, providing them with a separate flag does not mean that it is an integral part of India. Firstly, it has been three years since sms ban was imposed, the ban totally cut off the Kashmir from rest part of the country. Almost 40 percent of students are pursuing their studies outside the state and since the sms ban they have been driven up to the walls as it is one of the cheapest and fastest means of communication.such extreme steps are not even taken in those areas where gangster and mafia activities are most active. The recent telecom policy too, exempted kashmiris from benefits of the services which clearly depicted how we are being treated differently and discriminated against rest part of the country .Talking about normal life, it has become so difficult to get even a SIM card, a series of steps have to be followed. Getting a passport is less hassle free than getting a SIM card in this lost paradise. Last year veteran Kashmiri leader Geelani sahib was barred from attending the marriage of his own grandson. This depicts the height of mal governance and suppression of freedom. There exists no breather for him. Time and again he is being arrested and harassed. He is a one man army and that is the main reason why government considers him to be a big threat. People are being killed, arrested, molested, abducted and harassed and voices are being suppressed. Leaders who depict the clear picture of valley are put under house arrest. The government lacks a consensus which prompts them to undertake such steps. It is a war of wits and cannot be played with kid glove. Almost 64 years have passed but the people of Kashmir are still denied of justice. The referendum which was promised to us by Nehru still remains in papers only. We are passing through a situation of political turmoil and instability. Kashmir saw an uprising in 2008 and 2010 and thousands of people came on streets, hundreds lost their lives and thousands were booked under PSA.About 20000 people are booked under this draconian act. The government does not even spare the juveniles and arrest them. After fighting for justice, the government quashes the detainees which prove that they are being held under fallacious grounds. We witnessed a summer of despair. Summer of politics, poverty and paralysis. We can never forget the sacrifices given by juveniles like Wamiq Farooq, Tufail Mattoo, Abrar, Fancy and hundreds of others. Hundreds were waifed, many more widowed. We have been subjected to the slings and arrows of life. We are the ones who welcome the sharp blade with a smile. Our daughters have faced stigma of dishonor. Crimes are growing at breakneck pace. We have seen the dark alleys of human minds, the armed forces that open fire on the protestors do not have even a drop of the milk of human kindness. The bloodshed in those days reminded me of inexorable fate, mentioned in ancient Greek legends and tragedies. The pain still lingers in the families of Asiya and Neelofer who were ruthlessly murdered by the marauders of this valley. Their families are still waiting for the justice but the pseudo report presented by the CBI devoted their hopes. Their silent cries depict the tragic pathos of their titanic loss. Later they realized that their appeals and tears would butter no parsnip. The families made a futile effort to vindicate their honor. The mainstream party leaders turned out to be the villains of deepest dye. Kashmir has lost its glory and grandeur by the gun shots which surround the peace loving masses. People are labeled as terrorists by the biased media. Gagging of media is another problem that we kashmiris have been suffering. We have undergone curfewed days as well as curfewed nights. The United Nations has all the way acted as a mute spectator. Had they acted on time their words would have been a salve to our wounds but they are too vile to pay any heed to our pleas. They make flying visits, repeat the same old cock and bull story and dump the matter as it is. Most of the tortured and tormented souls could not cope with the baffling problems of life and thus ended up their lives. When will the reign of love dawn on this lost paradise?? Who will add life to the dry bones of kashmiri history??Longer this conflict goes on, more will a common man suffer, not the tin-gods.kashmir needs a big revolution. Some erratic people think that mass scale murders are what a revolution aims at!!! Revolution means a look in the eyes, an inflexion of the voice at the most, to have brighter thoughts and visions which fills up the horizon of our minds. We need to rise up and shake ourselves like a horse shaking off flies. We have to fight against this criminality. Solution does not lie in the stone pelting. Hope to see a brighter future after an unpleasant past.(amen) AZRA MUFTI,
