KATHMANDU, MAR 16 - Nepal are inching closer to their maiden victory in their first ever World Cup match after some impressive performance from their bowlers against Hong Kong at the ICC World Twenty20 which kicked off in Bangladesh on Sunday. Nepal i spinners made inroads in the Hong Kong batting lineup after spinner duo Basanta Regmi and Shakti Gauchan shared six wickets within themselves. At the end of the 12.3 overs, Nepal were moments away from victory as Hong Kong were struggling at 60 for the loss of eight wickets. At the end of the first innings, Nepal scored 149 runs in their allotted 20 overs for the loss of eight wickets. Nepal i skipper Paras Khadka and his deputy Gyanendra Malla steadied the ship for Nepal once the openers were out after a bright start in a game being played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong (neutral venue). Hong Kong won the toss earlier and invited Nepal to bat first. Nepal made an equally impressive start with the bowl as skipper Khadka took wicket in the very first ball. Nepal i openers made 36 runs in four overs for the first wicket partnership before Sagar Pun was dismissed for 13 runs. Soon after fellow opener Subash Khakurel was also dismissed bringing skipper Paras Khadka on the crease. Skipper Khadka and his deputy Gyanendra Malla forged together a partnership of 80 runs in 11 overs before Khadka was dismissed for 41 runs of 37 balls. Malla made a significant contribution scoring 48 runs in 41 balls, helping the team to reach 149 runs. Nepal have been pitted in Group A of the preliminary phase of the tournament where they will play against hosts Bangladesh and arch-rivals Afghanistan besides todays match. Group topper will advance to the next phase of the tournament where they will lock horns against the test playing nations.
