KATHMANDU, SEP 12 - The CPN-Maoist-led 33-party alliance held a motorcycle rally in the Capital on Wednesday in order to garner public support for their newly announced programmes of protest. The rally , which started from Tinkune, moved around three districts of the valley demonstrating banners, chanting slogan and appealing the public to boycott the Constituent Assembly polls scheduled for November 19. CPN-Maoist Secretary Dev Gurung said the rally was held to make people aware that the election is being held on the direction of “external force”. “Such rallies will be held all across the country simultaneously just a day ahead our scheduled banda,” Gurung said, adding that his party and its allies have also decided to open all doors of dialogue open. CPN-M Central Committee member Sudip Malla said the rally wanted to warn the government and four major parties against the CA polls under existing circumstances. He said the alliance will come up with additional Kathmandu-centred poll-opposing activities to foil the entire process. Meanwhile, a meeting of the alliance held on Wednesday evening concluded that the major political parties are trying to run away from talks. Gurung said the four parties have shown double standard. “It’s clear that they don’t want an agreement. This is why they concluded to move ahead sidelining us although the informal talks were moving positively,” he said. Pasang Sherpa of the Federal Democratic Party said the fringe parties could bring written commitment of the CPN-Maoist if the major parties are doubtful on honesty of the Maoist toward the CA election. “We proposed them to make written agreement among all parties, including the CPN-Maoist, to participate in the election by deferring the polls. In the meantime, we can make accord on intricacies of the constitution and other contentious issues,” Sherpa said, adding that leaders of major parties were optimistic till Tuesday morning. He said the alliance will continue to seek consensus through negotiations in spite of their protest programmes in future. Gajurel threatens action against poll candidates KAVRE: CPN-Maoist Vice-chairman CP Gajurel has warned of derailing the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election and threatened not to spare anyone who files candidacy for the polls. Addressing a party programme organised in Banepa on Wednesday, Gajurel directed the party activists to prevent election candidates from entering villages. He claimed that the CA polls slated for November 19 will make way for “Sikkimisation” of Nepal. “We request one and all not to file as well as encourage others to file candidacy for the so-called CA election. If anyone files candidacy by disregarding our request, there is no guarantee that the candidate will return home,” Gajurel warned. The Maoist leader, however, said the CA polls might be held in the Napali month of Chaitra (March/April, 2014) if their 18-point demands, including the roundtable conference, were met. “We did not run away from the talks but the four parties did,” he said. Stating that the duty of Nepal Army is to secure the international border, Gajurel said state army should not be deployed during the election. “If army is deployed, there won’t be election but conflict” he said.
