KATHUA, DEC. 30: NABARD organized a function on Implementation of Area Development Scheme on Dairy and allied activities in Kathua district. Shanker A Pande, Chief General Manager, NABARD was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his address CGM, NABARD highlighted the importance of Area Development Scheme under dairy sector. Dairy is a sustainable activity which impacts agriculture and can easily be adopted by farmers/women farmers. He stressed that small actions have high impact and with establishment of new units, cattle population of the district will increase, as also production of milk and improvement of local germplasm. The objective of the scheme is to enhance production and marketing of clean milk, capacity building of farmers for undertaking dairy farming as commercial activity, increase income of dairy farmers through value addition, provision of infrastructure like animal shed, bulk coolers, promotion of dairy farming in a contiguous area, increasing the average cattle farm size with the farmers so as to reduce cost on material inputs, encouraging good functional SHGs to take up dairy farming activity and increase employment opportunities for the rural unemployed youth. Under ADS a credit flow of about 1017.50 lakhs is envisaged during next 2 years in dairy sector. The success of ADS will be judged from increased in milk productivity & production, increase in farmer’s income through better price realization, setting up of milk plant, bulk coolers, milk processing units etc. He asked the bankers/Government Departments to make it a huge success. He also highlighted the importance of roping landless farmers/ share croppers in JLG mode. It was also informed that JLGs can be formed from existing SHGs. He spoke in detail about the social responsibility of the banks, women empowerment etc. He asked the bankers to encourage formation of SHG/JLG groups. CGM, NABARD also paid visit to SBI-RSETI campus and KVK campus in Kathua. He interacted with group of 70 farmers and asked them to club agriculture activities with dairy, which will provide them additional income. He patiently listened to problems of farmers and assured all help from NABARD. The main participants in the meeting were Aman Kalsotra, DDM, NABARD, Hans Raj Hans, LDM, Vijay Padha, Director, SBI-RSETI, R K Kalsotra, LBO, Dalip Singh, Cluster Office, J&K Bank, K.L Sharma, Area Manager, JKGB, Dr. Surjit Kumar, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Dr. Tarvinder Singh, Chief Horticulture Officer, Bipin Samyal, Chief Agriculture Officer, Scientists of KVK, managers of different banks, NGO representatives and dairy farmers.
