KATU 44°F PREVIOUS NEXT LOCAL Police: 1 dead, 2 injured in shooting during fight, riot in NE Portland Show Caption View the Photo Gallery By Steve Benham, KATU Staff Nov 9, 2013 PORTLAND, Ore. – One person was killed and two others were injured early Saturday morning after gunfire erupted outside a nightclub in Northeast Portland, according to the Portland Police Bureau. Sgt. Pete Simpson, a bureau spokesman, said there was a large fight and riot involving 75 to 100 people outside Fontaine Bleau nightclub at 237 Northeast Broadway at about 12:45 a.m. One man was shot and died at the scene, Simpson said, and two others who were also shot, a female and a male, were taken to the hospital. They are expected to be OK. The group scattered on foot and in cars when police arrived, said Simpson. The police response was huge. Dozens of police cars converged on the area and police blocked off a number of streets. A KATU News reporter on the scene saw a body bag at Northeast Third and Weidler. Tim Knight, an employee at a nearby 7-Eleven told KATU that he heard four or five gunshots. I was dealing with customers at the time and a bunch of people came running into the store, frazzled, he said. There was one girl crying, a couple people screaming ... within moments, there was police everywhere. He said hed just move to Portland from Chicago to get away from stuff like this. Simpson said homicide detectives and the Gang Enforcement Team are investigating. Police want witnesses who fled the scene without talking to them to call (503) 823-3333.
