KBL ROOFING NAILS DOWN TITLE. . . The final game of the Monroe Women’s Softball League came down to McGowan’s and KBL Roofing, the two teams that tied for first in the regular season. Veteran pitcher Maddy Krushinsky held KBL’s bats most of the game until they exploded in the seventh inning to tie the game at 13. After adding seven runs in the top of the eighth, KBL hoisted the title with a 20-13 victory on Aug. 1. Kathy Snajder started pitching for KBL and was relieved by Sheree McSally in the sixth inning. Theresa Denham, Christine Cooney, Snajder, Skyler Bradford and Jody Morris each had two hits during the game. McSally, Val Messineo and Lee Bradford each had three hits. Alie Liscio, Sue Chymbor and Melissa England each had three hits, with Chymbor and England each having a triple. Chymbor drove in six runs. KBL had excellent team work playing well both defensively and offensively. Maddy Krushinsky, Shauna Spinelli and Stephanie Nedoszytko each had two hits for McGowan’s. Jan Freddino had three singles, Barb Markelz had four. Krisanne Laudenslager added three hits — including a double. Playoff roundup The two top seeds from 2013 met in a playoff game on Field 5. Ann Beaudoin pitched for A Bead of Roses, whose usually strong bats were kept at bay by McGowan’s Doc Fischetti. Elaine Brown, Jan Freddino and Markelz had two hits apiece, with Freddino and Markelz each having a triple. Laudenslager and Patty Fogle each had three hits, including a triple for Fogle. Nedoszytko turned two double plays. The first occurred in the third inning, when she caught Sandy Butler’s line drive and fired to it to Sue Shea at first to double off Lisa Rose. The second came in the fifth inning, where Nedoszytko scooped up Aurora Joaquim’s ball to force out Regina Essing at second, before throwing Joaquim out at first. Overall, Nedoszytko was instrumental in getting 11 outs during the game. Jennie’s had the lead for the majority of the game, but some timely hits by KBL gave it the victory. Lee Bradford’s home run that landed right on the right-field base line allowed two runs to provide KBL with a 16-15 victory. Jennie’s pitchers were Maggie Zacchilli and Dawn Barbierri. Great defense was provided by Sue Blozzon, Lisa Wheeler, Kristen Chase and Karen McLaughlin. Snajder pitched for KBL and had two hits. Other batters who had two hits included McSally, Chymbor, Cooney and Messineo. Denham, Liscio, Jody Morris and Lee Bradford had three hits, while Melissa England had four hits. KBL Roofing won the Monroe Women’s Softball League championship.
