KCB have inched closer to retaining the Safaricom Sevens Series after claiming a third successive Top Fry Prinsloo Sevens title with a 26-10 win over hosts Top Fry Nakuru. It was Nakuru who started the brighter of the two sides, going ahead courtesy of an unconverted try from Philip Kwame. The bankers responded through Edwin Salamba’s try and conversion going 7-5 up before Peter Kilonzo skipped through a tackle, going over for a 12-5 lead for the bankers at half time. Charles Odhiambo would spark life into Nakuru’s campaign, his unconverted try cutting the deficit to 12-10 but the bankers tightened their grip on the game, bossing the breakdowns, scoring two converted tries through Jacob Ojee and Oliver Mang’eni for the full time result. Speaking after the game, KCB Head Coach paid tribute to his charges, saying, “ It was a team effort that saw us through. We knew that all eyes were on us and we had to up our game and make up for the disappointment of losing in the cup final in Mombasa last weekend. “ Nakuru’s Gibson Weru rued his side’s lapse in concentration, saying, “We lacked the tactical discipline and this eventually proved costly. “ Mwamba RFC placed third with a 33-5 playoff win over Western Bulls.
