KCRR Radio interviewed me a few days ago regarding Humanitarianism. Out of all the questions they asked, the answer I share about this one question put the room in silence, so I figured I would also share with you all. Perhaps it will inspire. KCRR: What got you into saving the lived of others? I had come across an overturned vehicle a few years ago. The driver had fallen asleep at the wheel and drove his car off a small embankment. The car had rolled and few times and ended upside down. When I had gotten to the scene the man was atop the hill crying. The car had also just caught fire. He told me that his six year old daughter was still in the car. By this time about 9 people had showed up and were just standing looking down at the car. I ran down the hill and crawled into the car. When I got inside I could see what had happened. The car had a sunroof and it had blown out during the roll. The small girl had really long hair and it was pinned outside the sunroof, caught between the car and the ground. Having nothing to cut her hair with I was at a loss, so I curled up around her and just held her. I made the decision to stay with her so she would not be alone during this time. Then the most amazing thing happened. Because I had taken the chances I took, and made the decisions I had made regarding a life I had never known, it inspired everyone on the hill to come down, and together they lifted the car and I was able to get the girl out. I knew at that moment I had stumbled upon a rare gem in life, a shortcut to understanding love, care and compassion for others. Since that day I never looked back. -Burke Bryant
