KEENELAND TRIP ON BUCKET LIST FOR 97-YEAR-OLD RACING FAN Leonard - TopicsExpress

KEENELAND TRIP ON BUCKET LIST FOR 97-YEAR-OLD RACING FAN Leonard Rosenfeld used to turn business trips to Cincinnati into a reason to make a detour to Keeneland. On Wednesday, Rosenfeld, now 97, returned to the track for the first time in some 50 years to fulfill a wish on his bucket list. Rosenfeld, a former lawyer who now resides in a suburb of Philadelphia, was able to return to Keeneland thanks to his daughter, Susan Rosenfeld, and friends Jim and Alice Lytle. Wanting to make Rosenfeld’s Keeneland return as memorable as possible, Alice Lytle contacted Keeneland with his story, and the four enjoyed a VIP day at the races. Lytle secured tickets for the group in Keeneland’s fourth-floor Lexington Room, where their table was next to the window for a clear view of the track. Lytle, who is involved with the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event at the Kentucky Horse Park in April, also made custom-designed hats, including a black one with silver horseshoes and “Leonard” on it for Rosenfeld. After the third race, the four posed in the winner’s circle with the connections of Bob Heyer’s Keri This Day Lori (see photograph above). “I loved it, just loved it,” Rosenfeld said. “This has just been wonderful.” Rosenfeld said he planned to bet on Jeff Barkley and Richard W. Smith’s Lady Susan in the fifth race because the mare shared his daughter’s name. A short time later, Lady Susan won the race by seven lengths. She paid $10 to win.
