KEEP YOURSELF FOR GOD: 1 John 5:21 (NKJV) Little children, keep - TopicsExpress

KEEP YOURSELF FOR GOD: 1 John 5:21 (NKJV) Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. Many times, when we think of idols, we think of a statue, or some wooden object that people worship. The Amplified version of this verse really shows us what the Apostle John was talking about when he used the word idol. Check it out. 1 John 5:21 (AMP) Little children, keep yourselves from idols (false gods)—[from anything and everything that would occupy the place in your heart due to God, from any sort of substitute for Him that would take first place in your life]. Amen (so let it be). Doesn’t that give you a clearer picture of the word idol? It is anything and everything that would occupy the place in your heart due to God, from any sort of substitute for Him that would take first place in your life. That means anything. When things start pulling you away from God, and it can even be good things, it’s time for you to pull away from those things. Everything on this earth is going to pass away, but all I do for God my Father is going to last for eternity. I’m not saying we cannot enjoy the things of this world, but you and I know when they start taking first place in our hearts or they are becoming more important than our fellowship with our Father. So today, look within and see if there are any things that might be pulling you away from your relationship with God, and ask your Father to help you let go of them and let God have first place again. Confession: Today, I look within my heart and whatever I see that’s pulling me away from God I’m going to deal with. I don’t want anything to be more important to me than what I have with God so I choose Him today. Todays Bible Reading: Isaiah 6 - 7 2 Corinthians 11:16-33 Psalms 54 Proverbs 23:1-3
