KEEPING CONNECTIONS ALIVE ... Having just concluded my first volunteer meeting and tasks with the Friends of the MacKenzie Center (an environmental education facility 2.5 miles from where I now live that shares the same name -- exact spelling and capitalization too -- with my daughter MacKenzie), I decided to stroll up a pathway and take a look at the facilitys Native Wildlife Exhibit. The path wove its way through a tall Wisconsin forest canopy of Black Hills Spruce, native trees and assorted flora and as I rounded the last corner a familiar sound greeted me ... a Wolf howl! Two three-year-old captive Wolves howled as I approached, and the adjacent Coyote pair joined in the chorus. Here, two thousand miles from Yellowstone, a connection is renewed! -- The MacKenzie Center is one of the most diverse environmental education centers in Wisconsin, with interpretive trails, exhibits, museums and programming available for school and youth groups, MacKenzie is a wonderful place to visit and learn about the natural world!
