KEITHVILLE, LA-James “Jimmy” Edward Flowers, 58, of Keithville, La., passed away August 4, 2014, of a lengthy illness. A visitation will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a short service beginning at 12 p.m. Wednesday August 6, 2014 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Southside Drive in Shreveport. Rather than a traditional service, the family invites those who knew Jimmy to share their best loved memories and stories. Jimmy was born on August 23, 1955, in Shreveport, La., to Reuben Edward and Gloria Flowers. He graduated from Southwood High School, and then began his career in carpentry, a trade in which he was exceptionally skilled. Jimmy believed the worth of a man can be measured by his devotion to his family, his ability to provide and his integrity, and his family is a testament that he held true to these values. He honored his commitments and he was a man of his word. He was also uncomfortable in the spotlight and would have disliked having an obituary wax poetic about his character. So, to honor him, his family offers this short summary of a man who was fiercely loved – Jimmy was not always an easy man, but he was always a good man. Jimmy is survived by his second wife, Betsy Lee Flowers; sister, Deborah Flowers Vincent; sons Philip Anthony Flowers and wife, Whitney; William Christopher Flowers and wife, Heather; daughter Kelly Flowers Burns and husband, Andrew; and grandchildren Kylie, Kiersty, and Connor Flowers; Joshua and Lainey Flowers; and Riley, Kessa, Amy and Jack Burns. Jimmy was preceded in death by his first wife, Amy Bishop Flowers; and his parents. The family requests that in lieu of flowers or memorials, those who would like to honor Jimmy do so by saving their money and planning for their future. Rose-Neath Southside
