KEJRIHOLES PATH TO LIBERATION IN VARANASI. If reports are to be believed, it’s Varanasi from where the Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal is itching to contest the Lok Sabha election. The BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is all set to contest the Lok Sabha election from Varanasi following popular demand from his party cadres. Arvind Kejriwal is gearing up to take on Narendra Modi on the turf of the holy city of Varanasi. The outcome of such a battle is a foregone conclusion. The people of Varanasi are going to vote unanimously in favour of Narendra Modi who is inching closer to 7 RCR, New Delhi with each passing day. Arvind Kejriwal stands no chance whatsoever and he knows this. He indeed has a fair idea of what kind of misfortune is going to befall upon him, if he musters the courage to lock horns with Narendra Modi on the soil of Varanasi. The million dollar question is why is he so keen on fighting the battle he can never win? Does this posturing have any significance whatsoever? His love for grandstanding and penchant for faux patriotism are well-known by now. The announcement of his candidature against Narendra Modi in Varanasi is not driven by his intention to serve the people of Varanasi. He doesn’t have any extraordinary vision for the city where his party has negligible presence. This decision to contest election from Varanasi is purely self-serving one as it is going to earn him the reputation of a man who took on a political heavyweight like Narendra Modi. This Varanasi outing will keep him in the news for all kinds of reasons. The media will exploit the fight between Narendra Modi and Arvind Kejriwal to the hilt and since the latter has everything to lose and nothing to gain except free truckloads of publicity, he may not mind stirring the communal pot. Those who are familiar with the way Narendra Modi functions will know that he will be immune to any provocations from Arvind Kejriwal, no matter how grave they are in nature. Instead, he will focus on the issue of development and good governance in his campaign, so that the historic moment in the making is written in style and with dignity befitting the stature of a Prime Minister. In the process, Arvind Kejriwal has no idea of the harm he would cause to his party and himself. He is a man in a tearing hurry to finish his party and himself off. The last nail in the coffin will be contesting Lok Sabha election against Narendra Modi. This will be the first contest where the losing candidate will hog all the limelight because he happens to be up against a strong contender. The common man and the media will celebrate Kejriwal’s loss with equal gusto. Narendra Modi’s supporters will have a lot to celebrate in the days to come as his Prime Ministership promises to lift the country out of the UPA-gifted gloom and doom in the last decade. Arvind Kejriwal will cease to be of importance because his false bravery and series of lies to hoodwink the aam admi have already run their course. He is desperately trying to redeem his lost pride by positioning himself as an opponent of Narendra Modi against whom many harbour visceral hatred because he speaks the language of development and he does not belong to charmed circles of Delhi. The contest between Narendra Modi and Arvind Kejriwal is now in the cards. Everyone knows who will win. Arvind Kejriwal will gain some popularity outside Delhi but that will be too short-lived to have any impact on the future of the man from Gandhinagar. That said; it will be interesting to see Varanasi as an epicentre of the electoral activities in the days to come.
