KEJRIWAL CAME KNOCKING I was suddenly disturbed by the commotion outside. To my amusement, I found a man wearing a Gandhi cap leading a band of excited followers. They were headed to my house. A closer scrutiny revealed him to be Kejriwal. Without any introduction, he asked me why I had compared him to Mamata. He said, “Aap ko jawab dena padega. You have not realized the importance of aam aadmi. Who ab jag gaya hai. He wants his share in power.” His voice choked with emotion and he had a bout of hacking cough. I replied, “I don’t like public figures throwing tantrums. My remark was on the need for them to be responsible in their conduct.” This was enough to upset him. He snapped, “I won’t accept it. Aap aam aadmi ke gusse ko tantrum samajhte ho. There is no respect for the aam aadmi in this country. Only the Ambanis and the Adanis matter in India. They have looted the nation.” He was too impatient to wait for my reply. He carried on, “Main ek aam aadmi hoon. Mera haq banta hai ki main sawaal putchchun. Mere sawaalon se sab darte hain. Nobody answers my questions. Modiji mere se mile hi nahin.” I was lost for words. My silence further encouraged him. He became insistent, “Main aap ko nahin chchodunga. You have to answer me. Mere 16 sawaal hain. Pehla sawaal yeh hai…” The ongoing ruckus woke up my dog. Infuriated by Kejriwal’s scratchy voice, he out-barked him and drove him away.
