KENYATTA UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ASSOCIATION OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT INTERNAL MEMO TO: ALL STUDENTS DATED: August 12, 2014 RE: GENERAL COMMUNICATION Our attention has been drawn to several concerns from fellow students; my office would like to pass the following information: 1) CHANGE OF FEE STRUCTURE: There is no change of fees structure or any discussion on the same. The school fees remains as last semester. Kindly ignore any message to that effect. 2) RELEASE OF RESULTS: All pending results from last semester will be released next week upon approval by senate. The unwarranted delay has greatly inconvenienced many finishing students and we adequately pursued the matter with the relevant offices. 3) Suspension of Wycliffe Joseph- Congressperson: My attention was brought to this matter yesterday in the afternoon. I consequently sought clarification from the Speaker of the Congress and proceeded to meet the DVC Academic and Registrar Academic to seek clarification on the suspension because: • According to the new KUSA constitution- A KUSA official cannot be suspended, either from office or from school unless an oversight committee chaired by the chaplain has sat and reviewed the case which did not happen in this instance. To this end, Joseph validly is a congressperson and a student in the University for that very reason. • I have been duly given the letter served to Joseph Ref: H89/5288/2011 (13) and reference is Vacating University Premises. This letter DOES NOT suspend Joseph from the university but asks him to leave the university hostels. • Joseph is the fourth Congressperson in my knowledge to be asked to leave university hostels within the 10th Congress, and the 19th in total since 2009. One of the cases we intervened successfully and the decision was reversed, while 2 were upheld and those congresspersons lost their rooms for various reasons. • It is my opinion and personal view that other charges against him are frivolous and cannot sustain any case, and that is the shared view that has been formally passed to the authorities concerned. 4) HELB DISBURSMENT: We are pursuing the early crediting of HELB allocations before the start of the semester. I will regularly update you on the progress. Any person who would like any clarification can let me know either on my official Social Media platforms or my personal Cell Number: 0720 021 771 Kind Regards Lone Felix KUSA PRESIDENT
