KEVIN JORDAN RETURNS TO SKYLINE RACEWAY VICTORY LANE Speedsville, NY veteran driver Kevin Jordan scored his second victory of 2013 last Saturday night at the Skyline Raceway as he drove to victory in the 25 lap Sportsman feature event. Chris Fleming ran his win total to five in the IMCA Modified division while Jake Fowlston broke the ice with his first Pure Stock victory of the season. Buck Mills Jr. returned to the Junkyard Dogs victory lane with his tenth win of the season. Trevor Dudley won his second consecutive Junkyard Pups feature, his fourth triumph of 2013. Eventual winner Kevin Jordan took advantage of a front row starting position as he grabbed the lead as the green flag waved to start the 25 lap feature event. Over the early stages of the event he was hounded by Jim LaRock, who had moved up to second and was putting heavy pressure on Jordan for the lead. Just past the halfway point, LaRock’s race would come to a premature end as he slowed with mechanical problems. The resulting scramble also eliminated current point leader Butch Green and former champion Chris Stull, who was making a rare start aboard Lee DeWitt’s #77. The second half of the event featured an entertaining three car battle at the front of the field as Kevin Jordan found a challenge from Tom Collins Jr., who was working the top groove of the speedway and just behind Collins was Jordan’s nephew, Ryan Jordan. The three put on quite a show for the Skyline fans as they raced hard but clean, side by side with no significant contact whatsoever. The battle would rage all the way to the checkered flag as Jordan was able to just hold off Collins’ last ditch charge off the final turn. Collins settled for a runner-up finish with Ryan Jordan just behind in third. Impressive rookie Eric Leet turned in another strong run to finish fourth with Nick Nye completing the top five finishing order. In IMCA Modified action, Chris Fleming ran his season win total to five as he was the victor in the 20 lap feature event. Fleming utilized the extreme outside groove of the speedway to drive his way from deep in the field to the lead, making the winning pass of early race leader Dan Searls late in the event. Once out front, Fleming was able to drive away from Searls of over the closing laps to secure the win and add a couple of precious points to his total in his quest for the 2013 track championship. Searls drove to a second place finish, his best result of the season. Defending champion Kevan Cook finished third ahead of Chris Ward and Bumps Scutt. The Pure Stock division saw a new face in victory lane as “Superman” Jake Fowlston drove to his first victory of the season. Fowlston took advantage of a front row starting position to grab the lead on the first lap. Though he would go on to lead all 20 laps to earn the win, Fowlston had to survive a determined challenge from Darryl Krebs to secure the win. Krebs challenged Fowlston all the way before settling for a runner-up finish ahead of defending track champion Brenton Miller. Earl Zimmer finished fourth with Gene Sharpsteen fifth. Buck Mills Jr. continued his domination of the Junkyard Dogs division as he drove to his tenth feature win of the season. Mills took the lead prior to the halfway point as he drove around Connor VanValkenburg and into the top spot. Bill Flask worked past VanValkenburg on the final lap to finish second with Jon Miller also getting past to finish third. VanValkenburg finished fourth ahead of newcomer Brian Phillips. Trevor Dudley drove to his third feature win in the 15 lap Junkyard pups feature event. Dudley bested defending track champion Phil Burns, who took a runner-up finish after challenging Dudley for the win. Carl Chafee came home third ahead of Brett Stevens and Nick Seiter. Next Saturday night it will be a big five division racing card at Skyline with a full show of racing action including the Sportsman, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Junkyard Dogs, and Junkyard Pups. The final quad race of 2013 will also be held. All of those racing Quads are reminded that proper safety gear is required in order to participate..
