KEY NOTE ADDRESS Honourable Chief Guest of today’s function Shri Alemtemshi Jamir, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Nagaland, respected Shri Kopelo Krome, President Kohima Press Club, our Guest of Honour, Rev. Khrotso Mero who whole heartedly prayed to the Almighty for the success of the venture, distinguished dignitaries, entrepreneurs, social workers, invitees, media personals, ladies and gentlemen. At the outset, I on behalf of the Kangla Foods Products Private Limited feel privilege to share some of the experiences of the company right from the humble beginning of its venture in Manipur till this day “the launching ceremony” of the products in the enchanting capital of Nagaland, KOHIMA. It was 10 years ago Kangla Food Products took its first flight in a small town called Nambol, which is about 13 kilometres from Imphal with a humble manpower of 12 workers. Dreaming of competing especially in the sweat and salty food sector in Manipur market, which has already been flooded by other mufti-companies products, Shri A. Birendra our MD underwent a training in food processing for 2 years in Mumbai in early 2001 in quest to establish a packaged dry food processing unit in Manipur. It was during this period an innovative idea was germinated in his young mind that prompted him seeing Manipur replete with her vast resources in agricultural sector and with the unique taste in her vegetation can occupy a bigger space in the flourishing dry food market to be backed up by modern technology. But the question was starting a food processing unit with nobody to help him financially around became a stumbling block in speeding up the challenging task. But the old adage “fortune favours those who work hard “ proves right to him also. A Gentleman in the name of Mr. Mumtaz Md from Mumbai in whose house our MD rented a room during his trainee days came out in the disguise of a benefactor that through his humanitarian act, he arranged all the machineries from Mumbai required for setting up a food processing Unit without asking even a single penny in 2004. He was kind enough in recovering the loan only after Kangla food embarked on full swing. That is how Kangla food product raised its first smoke through its chimney in Manipur. But that was not the success story. The product, with its poor manual packaging and unattractive looks during those days in comparison with other branded food products, had little to do with the Manipur market. Our MD along with his small team had to push from shop to shop but in most cases many turned their back on the excuse that a local product by no means could compete a branded product hence he was wasting their valuable time. So, in nutshell like any other success story the initial chapter of the Kangla Food Products also had the same story of discouragement. We, the north easterners all alike, subscribed to a common tendency of disapproving locally processed indigenous products instantly without even having a taste of it. This way many budding local entrepreneurs had their premature burial, even they are not allowed to see the light of the day, this has made ourselves to become a delicious prey for other predators. Kangla Food Products against all odds and hurdles did its best and soon silver linen appeared after the end of the tunnel that with a reluctant taste of the products, the demands grew bit by bit and today Kangla have the privilege to off its hat to our consumer for making Kangla food a household name in Manipur. Shri A. Birendra strongly confident that Kangla Food should be a leading and reputed food processing company in the North East India having its presence in the national and international market through customers satisfaction and maximizing stakeholder’s value. The commitment will be strengthened by a simple formula that is to be a trusted professional company by providing quality, healthy and tasty food products to the customer and contributing to the process of economic growth, employment generation and sustainable livelihood in the North East India. Till this day he keeps abiding by a doctrine that Kangla food would not claim to be the best but definitely it assures totally a different taste and flavour. We have a strong belief that by establishing an agro based industries and embracing the concept of green revolution and raising numbers of food processing industries will definitely put at bay the growing numbers of poverty classes which has sapped the vitality in becoming a radiant society. With this objective in mind we can march forward ahead fueled by an inherent love of indigenous products without compromising the quality and taste. This way we can propel ourselves to such a magnitude where we can stand on our own without looking up to others. Look East Policy cuts its route through our lands but we are only a hand wavers to the big companies when they cat walk on our fertile ramp that connects the rest of Asia. We cannot simply afford to be mute spectators when the concepts of bridging up a long fly over from Indian mainland to other South East Asian Cities where we stood abutment to the bridge. We should wake up to the reality that State like Nagaland and Manipur can be another Singapore, another Hong Kong taking active role of being a buffer States in the bilateral relationships of the two giant countries like India and China which together are trying to achieve a great economic height through the land road corridors of Manipur and Nagaland. Thanks to the Mother Nature that we have been endowed with a vast cultivable land with a unique taste whatever grows in our land, that with this gift from mother earth we cannot simply remain ungrateful to her for not utilising her bounty in full. We should not allow poverty knocks on our door for sheer negligence. We should alarm our local cultivators to remove the apprehension that their agricultural products would go rotten if it is not sold at the right time. Cold storage that enables to store tones of produces should be patronised by the state government. Kangla Food product with its new machineries which is later to be installed at Nalbari requires 20 thousand MT of potatoes in a single day. So far Kangla reluctantly purchase all the potatoes from Gujarat and Mumbai to meet the daily requirement for our North Eastern states produces of potatoes cannot meet the required consumptions of the Kangla. Nagaland and her adjoining hills are best suited land for growing potatoes, maize, banana, etc. but they only focus on local consumption alone. If these produces increase, there is no question Kangla Food products runs 2000 miles to Gujarat to purchase potatoes. We believe in the concept “live and let live” and this has to be more practical in our own region that is North East. In conclusion the launching of the products in the state’s capital, Kohima, the state unit would further branch out to other districts in Nagaland too. With increasing volumes of consumption in Nagaland, the Company is in a vision to install a unit in Nagaland in the days to come to generate employment avenues to the locals while instilling a sense of industrialization. With a view to setting up Nagaland Chapter, Yavituo Kire, as a Distributor of the Kangla Food Products, shall organize a Marketing Team for reaching the products to the consumers in Kohima and also to the consumers of other districts in Nagaland. It is indeed very fortunate to have found a person like him whose expertise and courage will immensely benefit the Company in expansion of its Nagaland Unit. With the launching of the products let us together affirm a commitment that we should join hands to transform the entire North East markets a home of the indigenous entrepreneurs and make the North East shine in the coming days. Thank you.
