KFMG’s Rockin’ Golf Outing 2013 will take place on Monday, June 24, 2013, and you’re invited. It begins with a 2 p.m. shotgun start best ball golf event at Willow Creek, 140 Army Post Road in West Des Moines, IA. The event will be on the “Red” course, the main 18-hole layout at Willow Creek. Participation in the event is $75 per person. We’ll have contests on a number of holes (longest drive, closest to the pin, longest putt—that sort of thing), with prizes, and we’ll award prizes to several flight winners, as well. Following golf at Willow Creek, participants will head for the Hotel Fort Des Moines. At the hotel, food will be served (in a significant upgrade from the overcooked burgers, brats and hotdogs usually served at such functions, food will be provided by the award-winning Flying Mango Restaurant). Following food, golf event participants will be joined by members of the general public in the Hotel’s Grand Ballroom for an evening of music and a silent auction of music, music memorabilia, concert tickets and other exciting items. Admittance for the concert alone is $15. If you’re not a golfer, this part of the outing is for you. Music will be provided by three fine musical ensembles. Headlining will be Chicago band, Great Divide. This 7-piece rockin’ soulful blues band has a brand-new self-titled CD just out, which KFMG is playing. Also on the bill will be Get Off My Lawn, a new central Iowa band featuring Iowa Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members Mike Condon, Paul Wilson and Steve Matthews, among others. Opening the evening will be Opus Taylor, a new classic rock band from Des Moines, which was recently featured (May 25th) in a Des Moines Register article.
