The Academy side won the league competition last season while Sateba were the knockout cup winners and both teams looked confident going into the season opener at the Sanna Jatta Memorial Football Field. Demba Janneh will again be key for KGH having scored the most important goal of the season in 2014 in the 1-0 final win over Sanchaba, while Sateba will be looking up to Reny Sambou once again for inspiration, for a successful campaign. Speaking in an interview with Observer Sports ahead of the game, Mustapha Sanyang, the head coach for KGH Academy, said they are well prepared. He said their pre-season training was disrupted by the Muslim Holy month of Ramadan, but he was quick to add that it should not affect their chances tomorrow. He expressed confidence of winning the game due to their readiness, mental and physical preparedness of his players. “Our plan this year is not only to defend the championship, but to secure all the three titles and we are going to start with the super cup final. Come Friday, we are going to win that game,” he said with confidence. Sanyang commended the Committee for a job well done during last year’s nawettan, expressing pleasure to what was disclosed at last weekend’s Annual General Meeting. He added: “My biggest inspiration about the Committee last year, coming into this year’s super cup after the nawettan, is their preparedness, lobbying funds and they were working closely with village heads to rally behind the players, and the financial report was impressive.” For his part, Omar Sanyang, the head coach of Sateba expressed high hopes of defeating the league champions. He said it is important for Sateba to make a statement as they seek to secure the league title this season. Author: Modou Lamin Sanneh
