KICK: MOVIE REVIEW KICK or let’s call it, THE FANTASTICAL - TopicsExpress

KICK: MOVIE REVIEW KICK or let’s call it, THE FANTASTICAL STORY OF BEING HUMAN, is the directorial debut of Producer Sajid Nadiadwala who you know, is almost the junior version of Jerry Brukheimer in Hindi Films. Sajid knows what makes a movie tick in theatres and expectedly so, he intersperses this Biryani that is KICK, with all the right ingredients albeit in different measures and throws them in at inappropriate times. The result, is a good looking mess that has a few tasty bits but overall feels unpalatable and leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I know it’s a Salman Khan starrer so any attempts to discuss a story and screenplay is going to be met with guffaws, more so if I told you that our beloved Chetan Bhagat has a part in writing the screenplay. There, I see, goes your interest in knowing about the story or screenplay, good it’s settled then, let’s move on. A faithful remake of Ravi Teja starrer Telegu movie of the same name, KICK doesn’t bother itself much with logic, sense or continuity, those suckers can go to another theatre and if you want me to talk about them, then excuse me while I write a book on how to jump off a building in Warsaw, land in London to get drunk in India. KICK sees Salman play Salman in a good mood and he is having a blast on screen, surprisingly though, despite occupying most of the screen time, Salman isn’t the best thing here. The credit goes to Sajid because smartly by him and fortunately for us he doesn’t rely solely on the star power of Salman and surrounds him with some good actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Randeep Hooda and Saurabh Shukla who save the film from being a complete train wreck by at least offering you a few moments to sit up and take notice. A special mention to Nawaz who gives a demo on how to take mediocre and elevate it to brilliant. Watch him in his introduction scene deliver those couplets with such aplomb that for a moment I thought I was at the wrong screening but then Salman appears to assure me that I am indeed watching his movie. Nawaz is the super-villain here and for once I wanted him to beat up the hero and win. Randeep Hooda is his assured self and delivers a controlled performance. Those two command the most interesting and note worthy bits of the film and in between is the rest of the suffering. I just wish Sajid chose his writers like his actors too. KICK is for hard-core Salman fans who would find enough kick for their money’s worth, as for others they can salvage some value out of watching Nawazudding Siddiqui deliver one more knock straight out of the park, though, I am not sure if that is all you want out of a 146 minute long movie. Oh, there’s Jacqueline Fernandez too, looking pretty! RATING: 1.5 for the movie + 1 for Nawaz = 2.5/5 What the Ratings mean: 1: AWFUL 2: AVOIDABLE 3: WATCHABLE 4: MUST WATCH 5: MASTERPIECE P.S. I have been told that to enjoy such movies you must switch off your brain, now I really don’t know how to do it, so here’s my take on what you should do if you really want to switch off your brain’, hang logic, hang belief, hang sense, hang intellect and while you are at it you might as well just hang yourself.
