KIDS KRAFT SCHOOL HOLIDAY SESSIONS Mint Willow Studio is thrilled to offer a Kids Kraft program for the coming school holidays just wanted to give you a bit of background info so you know what will be involved. My Name is Emma Stenhouse, I’m a mum of 3 and love being a crafter, printer and sewing queen, I have a Certificate III in Children’s Services; have previously worked at Rainbow Preschool and TAFE Children’s Services Department, I have a Working with Children’s Check. I am passionate about teaching children the skills that will enable them to enjoy creativity during their time at the studio and then at home with you guys. The 3 hour sessions each day will give them the opportunity to explore many different forms of crafting and creating. We will get messy, have a blast and the kids will come home with stuff they never thought they could make Each session will start at 10.30 am, children will need to wear old comfortable clothing and bring along some water and a snack (I can pop them in the fridge) Please let me know if your child has any additional needs or allergies I need to be aware of. Parents are more than welcome to stay for the session. I will need your contact details if you are not staying. So here’s a list of the sessions, with prices and a brief outline for each day. Children will need to be competent with scissors. To Book please phone Emma 0418164202 Or pop in 125 Oxide Street PRICES ARE LISTED NEXT TO EACH CLASS XX MONDAY 23RD September –Screen printing a T-shirt Please bring along a t-shirt for your child to print on. You may also want to send along an apron to protect their clothing as printing can get messy, so old clothing is a must. If you have a design in mind please pop in sometime the week before to grab some litho paper to trace and cut a stencil. Ideally a simple design using one colour would be great. Children will do a test print on calico and then will print onto the shirt. Screens, squeegees, paint, tape and paper supplied TUESDAY 24th September – Felt Ball Necklaces $18 each Using handmade felt balls and ribbons and bows we will create gorgeous, cute and co-ordinating necklaces. Always a fun project as children have free reign to use whatever colours they like, and love to show off their stylish creation afterwards WEDNESDAY 25TH September – Super Hero Capes & Masks $35 each Using templates made from superheroes we will sew the felt superhero symbol of their choice onto the cape – which we will whip up as well and then we will make the matching mask with felt THURSDAY 26th September – Screen Printing a name pillowcase $35 each Please bring along a pillowcase for your child to print on. You may also want to send along an apron to protect their clothing as printing can get messy, so old clothing is a must. If you have a design in mind please pop in sometime the week before to grab some litho paper to trace and cut a stencil. Ideally a simple design using one colour would be great. Children will do a test print on calico and then will print onto the pillowcase. Screens, squeegees, paint, tape and paper supplied FRIDAY 27TH September – Felt Monster toys $20 Children can either bring along a drawing of a monster or we can use a pattern I have. We will cut out the shapes and sew them together; we will need to hand stitch the smaller pieces on, and then fill it with stuffing SATURDAY 28TH September – sewing a library bag $25 This project is as simple as making two bags and sewing them together to create a lined library bag, using a binding we will then thread cord though to make a drawstring. Week 2 MONDAY 30th September – Screen Printing a softie panel $35 each Using the theme of animals, and with the templates provided children will screen print a silhouette image onto fabric. Detail can then be hand painted on using fabric paint. Once dry their own softie creature will be cut out ready for tomorrow to sew it together TUESDAY 1st October – Sewing softie together $20 Using the panel piece they printed and painted the previous day, children will now sew it together to make a softie, if you have a sewing machine please bring it along, if not I have a couple on hand for them to use. Once it’s sewn together, they will stuff it and learn how to do a ladder stitch to close it up. WEDNESDAY 2nd October – Fabric covered papier mache bowl $18 We all remember making papier mache items when we were kids, there is now a new product out which is like a plaster, you simply wet the strips and then lay them over your bowl to get the shape. Once our bowl is made we will cut fabric into strips and using mod podge we will stick them on. This is definitely one of the messier classes but also a lot of fun THURSDAY 3rd October – Making fabric bunting $20 each Children will choose 3 different fabrics to make their bunting, using a triangle template they will cut out and then sew each of the flags together. Then, using pinking shears (zig zag scissors – stops fraying) they will cut along the edges, finally we will create a binding and sew it all together. Once finished they can hang it in their room or on a cubby house, always makes a cool decoration especially when they have made it themselves. If you have a sewing machine please bring it along or I have some they can use FRIDAY 4th October – kids candle making class $20 each Flicka Products’ Jacquie Ralph will be helping the children to make scented coloured candles. Extra care needs to be taken with this class so we welcome parents to stay for this one as we will be using hot wax & electric stove. Children will see how wax melts and then sets in the vessels. SATURDAY 5TH October – making paper $18 each A great project that’s all about recycling, using scrap paper which will be pre-soaked, we will explore how paper is made and how we can customise it by adding colour, glitter and natural objects like leaves. Paper will be pulped using a blender and then the children will be given the opportunity to make little pots to take home and plant in the garden with some seedlings
