KIKOS POST OP SURGERY UPDATE... As expected, Kiko is very weak in the pelvis/lower limbs following his surgery for a compressed spinal cord and multiple herniated discs. The specialist says we should see improvement in 3-5 days and even further improvement in 2-4wks. For now Kiko is only able to sit and drag himself to move around. Kiko is on three medications: ~Clavamox, an antibiotic, every 12 hrs to prevent infection. ~Tramadol for pain every 8hrs. ~ Prednisone, anti-inflammatory, twice a day. He starts getting weaned off of it in a day or two. He is on strict cage rest for the next 10-14 days except for potty breaks. He is in a play pen to keep him safe and comfortable. He also has a stroller so he is not isolated and enjoys being close to his fosters. Starting tomorrow he can get sunshine therapy. His incision has to be iced 3 times a day for 10-15 minutes and he tolerates it well. He is also eating and drinking well. Kiko is allowed very minimal activity for the next two weeks and he cant be bathed during that time. Kiko is being a very good sport about all of this. There is still no tail wagging but we are hoping it will happen soon.
