KILCOY SHOWGROUND DEVELOPMENT TO BE OFFICALLY OPENED In mid-2012, the Somerset Regional Council received $500,000 from Round Two of the Regional Development Australia Fund (RDAF) through the former Federal Labor Government, for the Kilcoy Showground Facility Development. Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann said the $1 million project has provided an economic and jobs boost to the local community. “The Kilcoy Showground Facility Development project has delivered new infrastructure that provides both social and economic benefits,” Mr Neumann said. “Through RDAF, the former Labor Federal Government provided Somerset Regional Council with $500,000 to bring the $1 million project to life. “Somerset Regional Council is one of the organisations in regional Australia joining the dots and creating several jobs during construction. “Now it’s completed, the Kilcoy Showground Facility Development has successfully provided for a new pavilion, storage facilities for existing clubs using the Reserve, and an extension of existing lighting around the arena. “The Kilcoy Showground Facility Development has provided additional facilities for local communities, increased participation in sport, delivered recreation and leisure activities to the community and has already attracted visitors to the region.” Mr Neumann said the Kilcoy Showground Facility Development project has made an important contribution to the region. “Projects such as the Kilcoy Showground Facility Development were selected by the former Federal Labor government because they have leveraged funding and demonstrated clear long-term regional benefits, including jobs and opportunities for the broader region. “This project has delivered a clear social and economic dividend for the region. Now completed, the project has provided support to the equine sector, encouraged and attracted visitors, attracted stakeholder group networks and visitors from outside the region and has injected cash flow from outside the region into the local economy. Mr Neumann commended the Kilcoy community for their work in securing the funding. “The Kilcoy community responded to the challenge of developing a creative proposal that stacked up, effectively leveraged other funding and sustained the economic and social future of the region. At the time of the funding, Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann announced that the $500,000 RDAF grant was matched by $500,000 from Council in its 2012/13 budget.
