KIM QUEK 金格 November 30 at 8:34am · When Najib has to use a hearsay evidence as far-fetched as the alleged RM100 million bribe to gloss over BN’s horrendous corruption record, on an occasion as solemn as the Umno annual assembly, it is as good as admitting that he has abandoned another of his key vow – in addition to the repeal of the Sedition Act – which is to stamp out the ever escalating corruption that has rung alarm bells all round. As for his allegation of PKR’s “Kajang move” as evidence that Anwar Ibrahim has practiced “the biggest form of nepotism”, such laughable falsehood has not only reflected on Najib’s shallowness, but has ironically revealed one of the biggest evil of the Umno rule, which is the ruthless manipulation of the judiciary to persecute its political opponents. When the whole world knows that the hurried conviction of Anwar by the Court of Appeal for sodomy was entirely motivated to disqualify him from standing for election in the Kajang constituency, is it not the height of folly to highlight this same episode to ridicule Anwar? It is sad that Najib has used his concluding speech in the Umno assembly to volley such frivolous substance to camouflage his failed leadership, confirming beyond all doubts that it is an illusion to hope for anything constructive from his remaining premiership.
