KINDNESS: Ive been actively practicing assertive behavior for awhile now... And I would like to emphasize the word PRACTICING... Personal change takes time and practice. (Just as the first time you go to the gym with the goal of growing muscles, you dont walk out after 1 work-out with giant muscles. You have to work them and grow them and do it consistently) My assertive behavior catches people off guard whove known me for years, because I am not Wishy Washy, smiling and agreeing with everything they say anymore (in other words, I am not a doormat...) Some of those people choose not to be around me anymore because I tell the truth and dont tolerate behaviors that are disrespectful or making fun of others. I LOVE to laugh, but my humor has changed in the past year from laughing at the expense of others to laughing at moments that I see as silly or fun. I used to make people laugh so they would not see my pain and they would like me. Now I do not care if people like me. If you like me, great! And if not, respectfully tell me why (because maybe I need to make a change...) Ive found myself getting a little too hard and not being as kind as I possibly can all the time... So this week Ive decided that kindness is the choice I make when interacting with others. So MY theme this week is KINDNESS. I will be practicing all week.
