KINGDOM 50,000 Indian expats await final exit visas Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH — Indian Embassy sources said the mission has issued 50,000 new passports to Indian nationals who are awaiting their final exit visas, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported. Sibi George, deputy chief of mission in the Indian Embassy in Riyadh, said the embassy has completed all procedures needed to help Indian community members who need to rectify their residency status. He pointed out that there are now 50,000 Indians awaiting their final exit visas, to be issued by the Ministry of Interior. He said a number of Indians have already left the country and some have transferred their iqamas to other sponsors. Recent statistics from the Ministry of Labor show that 5,875 Indian workers have transferred their iqamas, the most of any nationality. Yemenis were second with 2,758, while Palestinians came last with only 272 transfers. The majority of iqama transfers were to sponsors in the construction and wholesale and retail sectors. A total of 113,578 workers have transferred their iqamas to sponsors in the construction sector, and 49,057 to employers in the wholesale and retail sector. The operation and maintenance sector came third with 13,153 transfers, while the tourism sector came last with only 2,702 transfers.
