KINGDOM DYNAMICS: 11:24-26 The Christian and Demonization, DELIVERANCE. Exorcism is the act of casting out a demon from a person in the name of Jesus. The text indicates it is possible for an unbeliever to be occupied by one or more demons. Through true repentance and an encounter with the power of the Holy Spirit, that person can be delivered from demonic bondage. Having been swept and put in order (v.25) he must receive Jesus Christ or face the possibility of greater demonic bondage (v.26). Once however, an individual receives Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, the Holy Spirit makes His abode within. The persons spirit, having been made alive through rebirth, then becomes the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit who will not dwell with evil. Once possessed by the Holy Spirit, a Christian cannot be possessed in his spirit by a demon. However the Greek verb daimonidzomai may also be translated to be demonized. This does happen to believers, whose soul (mind, will or emotions) can be demonically harassed in many ways and with varying degrees of torment. Such intensified, wearying personal trials (2 Cor. 12:7); due to ones being deceived (1 Tim. $:1,2); through ones being broken down by lies of the Enemy (2 Cor. 10:4-6); or by ones repeated engagement in sinful activity (Eph. 4:27).
