KINGS ISLAND, Ohio – Two popular family attractions are celebrating their 45th anniversary season this summer at Kings Island: Race for Your Life Charlie Brown and the Monster. The rides originally opened in 1968 at Cincinnati’s Coney Island and were among the attractions transported to Kings Island in the fall of 1971. They join the Grand Carousel, Dodgem, Linus’ Beetle Bugs, Peanuts Off-Road Rally and the Scrambler as the only rides remaining at Kings Island that were in operation at Coney Island. Race for Your Life Charlie Brown debuted at Kings Island in 1972 as the Kings Mills Log Flume and is a splash-filled water adventure for guests of all ages as they float through an excursion in the wilderness and race to the finish line. The attraction has given more than 43 million rides since 1972, the fifth-most in park history behind the Racer (98 million), K.I. & Miami Valley Railroad (50 million), The Beast (47 million) and Woodstock Express (43 million). Riders experience the power of the Monster as they spin, rise and drop in three different circles at the same time. The Monster has given more than 22 million rides since 1972, the 12th-most in park history. Race for Your Life Charlie Brown and the Monster were both prominently featured in the “I Left My Heart in Cincinnati” episode of The Partridge Family, filmed at Kings Island in 1972. Kings Island is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, a publicly traded partnership that is listed for trading on The New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “FUN.” In addition to Kings Island, Cedar Fair owns and operates ten other amusement parks, four water parks, an indoor water park, and five hotels. Cedar Fair also operates the Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park in Gilroy, Calif. under a management contract.
