KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Jamaicans Veronica Campbell-Brown 11.27 and Trisha-Ann Hawthorne 11.38 were fourth and fifth respectively in the highly anticipated women’s’ 100 metre at the Cayman Invitational held at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in Georgetown, Cayman Islands Wednesday night. Campbell-Brown, a former World and Olympic champion, was beaten by Jenaba Tarmoh of the United States who ran 11.14secs to get the better of Muriel Ahoure of the Ivory Coast,11.15 and Great Britain’s Asha Phillip third in 11.19. Campbell-Brown was competing in her first outdoor race of the season. Meanwhile, Jamaica’s Dexter Lee was fourth in 10.32 in the men 100 metre while Sheri-Ann Brooks (Jam) 23.33 was third in the women’s 200m. Many time Jamaican national Champion, Novelene Williams-Mills, showed good early season form to top the women’s 400m field in 50.26 seconds and beat her own meet record of 50.35 set in 2012. Bobby-Gaye Wilkins-Gooden, also of Jamaica, finished second in 52.93. 400-metre hurdler Ristanna Tracey pulled off another win for Jamaica taking the event in 55.19. Team mates Shevon Stoddart (55.59) and Rushell Clayton (57.39) were third and fifth. Jowayne Hibbert of Jamaica also won the mens 800m (1:49.69) in a very close finish over Trinidad’s Jamaal James (1:49.75) and Ricardo Cunningham of Jamaica (1:50.12).
