KL shares close lower on lack of buying momentum: KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 — Shares on Bursa Malaysia closed lower today on lack of buying momentum especially in selected heavyweight counters. The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) shed 5.47 points to 1,796.36 after hovering between 1,793.28 and 1,800.3 through the day. Leading the heavyweights, Maybank lost 6 sen to RM10.24 and CIMB 13 sen to RM7.95, Axiata, Sime Darby and Petronas Chemicals were flat at RM6.91, RM9.52 and RM6.93 respectively. The weakness was also influenced by soft regional markets on fresh concerns over the US Federal Reserve’s policy on its bond-buying programme. Singapore’s Straits Times Index eased 0.72 per cent to 3,214.17, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index was 0.56 per cent lower at 23,371.54 and Indonesia’s Jakarta Composite Index fell 0.46 per cent to 4,562.86. Back home, the Finance Index slipped 94.46 points to 16,935.8 and the Industrial Index was down 1.03 points to 3,048.24. The Plantation Index added 3.47 points to 8,337.37. The FBM Emas Index declined 29.24 points to 12,465.18, the FBMT100 26.93 points to 12,206. The FBM 70 Index rose 11.08 points to 14,134.36 and the FBM ACE Index 65.95 points to 5,425.9. Losers led gainers 390 to 357, with 319 counters unchanged, 523 untraded and 23 others suspended. Turnover eased to 2.13 billion shares worth RM1.78 billion from last Friday’s 2.39 billion shares worth RM2.44 billion. Volume on the Main Market eased to 1.3 billion shares valued at RM1.62 billion from the 1.8 billion shares valued at RM2.33 billion last Friday. Turnover on the ACE market jumped to 792.06 million shares worth RM148.69 million from last Friday’s 544.52 million shares worth RM103.32 million. Total warrants decreased to 38.92 million units worth RM4.58 million from 44.25 million units valued at RM5.63 million previously. Among actives, The Media Shoppe added 3 sen to 15.5 sen, and Farlim Group 10.5 sen to 57.5 sen. Karambunai Corp and China Stationery were flat at 11.5 sen and 20 sen respectively. Consumer products accounted for 193.13 million shares on the Main Market, industrial products 233.33 million, construction 46.74 million, trade and services 314.66 million, technology 130.99 million, infrastructure 22.59 million, SPAC 88.02 million, finance 38.25 million, hotels 1.37 million, properties 224.15 million, plantations 10.607 million, mining 93,300, REITs 41.47 million, and closed/fund 27,200. — Bernama dlvr.it/41NpMk
