He helped guide the club to the Brazilian Serie A title before crafting a move to Shakhtar Donetsk. Elano became the first player from the Ukrainian Premier League to represent Brazil in 2006. He won back-to-back league titles with Shakhtar Donetsk before Manchester City added him to their roster. The versatile playmaker was deployed in various positions at City, even as winger or fullback, and registered 14 goals and 11 assists in 62 Premier League appearances. In 2009, he joined Turkish giants Galatasaray and spent two seasons in Istanbul before returning to Santos. He bagged the top scorer award on his return to the top flight in Brazil in 2011. He has also turned out for Brazilian giants Grêmio and Flamengo. Elano represented Brazil on 50 occasions, notching up nine goals.
