KNSG TO CONVERT SANI ABACHA YOUTH CENTER TO A TECHNICAL COLLEGE - KWANKWASO Kano state government has taken over Sani Abacha Youth Center, in the outskirts of Kano city and converted it to technical college, to boost technical education in the country, the state governor, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso disclosed. During an official visit to the center, originally a non-governmental organization, governor Kwankwaso however promised that the name of the institution would not be changed, as it was so named to immortalize the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, who played a significant role in its establishment. The governor, who was conducted round the premises of the center by some members of its staff, lamented that despite the huge amount of money spent to construct the edifice and provide it with facilities for skills acquisition, it was left to dilapidate. “The current condition of the Sani Abacha Youth Center is irritating. It was left to decay despite the huge investment. In fact since it was established, it has not been properly managed and everything in the center is now so dilapidated to the extent that part of its land was sold out by yet to be identified people”, Governor Kwankwaso lamented. Governor Kwankwaso assured that the state government would renovate the center, provide all necessary facilities and personnel to make it a functional technical college. He directed the state Ministry of Education to enrol students for the take-off of the school next academic session. The governor said his administration is keen to develop technical education in Kano as it would, among strategies, provide solution to the lingering unemployment in the state and the country at large. The government, he stressed, would continue to improve provide new and improve existing career training centers as part of its crusade against drug abuse, street begging and other youth related social vices.
