KSO flays assault on Aishi villagers IMPHAL, Nov 26 : Kuki Students Organisation, Ukhrul District (KSO-Ukhrul) has strongly condemned the alleged assault of innocent villagers of Aishi, including a pastor, by personnel of 44 Assam Rifles posted at Chassad on November 24 after summoning the villagers to the AR’s camp. The CO of 44 AR, Colonel Branchy, after receiving information of the movement of UGs in and around Aishi village, Indo-Myanmar border, Ukhrul district, had summoned the villagers to the battalion’s headquarters at Chassad where they interrogated them whether the presence of UGs in their village was known to them, according to a KSO statement. The 44 AR allegedly thrashed the villagers black and blue on the pretext that the villagers withheld the information regarding the presence of UGs in their village. The KSO, therefore, appealed to the higher authorities of AR to intervene and penalise those AR personnel involved in the incident. The organisation has also demanded immediate transfer of the CO Colonel Branchy and a formal apology from the AR according to Kuki customary law. KSO further demanded compensation of medical expenses and an assurance from the battalion that similar incident would not be repeated in the future. The statement further warned that the organisation would launch agitation if their demands are not met at the earliest.
