KSOs Social integration seminar held IMPHAL, Sep 25: A seminar on “Identity as Agent of Social Integration” which aimed to identify the causes of social discord among the three major communities, Meitei, Naga and Kuki was held by the Kuki Students’ Organisations (KSO) General Headquarters at Kuki Inn in Imphal today. Education Minister M Okendro, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Minister Francis Ngajokpa were on the dais at the inaugural ceremony held with assistance provided by Tribal Research Institute. In his speech, Okendro hailed KSO for organising the seminar which he said was relevant to the present state of affairs in Manipur. Okendro said he was hopeful that such discussions would rebuild the cordial relationships of different communities of the State. He also urged for a peaceful society and appealed to all, particularly to the student community not to disrupt the education sector. Prof N Mangi Singh, Head of Political Science Department, Manipur University presented a paper on “The scope & prospect for social integration in multi-cultural Manipur” and Dr T Lunkim, Administrative Secretary, Kuki Christian Church spoke on the topic “History of social integration” at the seminar. An interaction session was also held as part of the discussion. The seminar was organised in the hope to identify the causes that led to social discords among the three major communities of Meitei, Naga and Kuki of Manipur. Explaining about the seminar, KSO said each group is not willing to see the larger picture of how to promote their own culture and identity by not compromising on social integration. It said peace, unity, integrity and progress are the quintessential aspects of social integration because without social integration development and growth is impossible.
