KTM Australian Junior Motocross Championship Update – Day 5 I was unable to view a fair few of the races today due to the issues with my voice and trying to rest it up for tomorrow, so this will be a short run down of the results thus far. Today brought our first full day of clear, rainless skies, and with it great racing and exciting action! We did have an intruder parading out onto the track without permission, which caused some controversy until it was found that the streaker was none other than off road champion Toby Price. We had the riders, families, industry and even some unknowing officials worried, so it was definitely worth the effort and I’m sure the KTM guys got a kick out of it. On a less positive note we had numerous riders suffering from big crashes; Hunter Lawrence sustaining a broken collarbone and ending his title chase for both the 85 and 125 championships, Luke Abela and Alysha Goullet also running within the top 5 of their respective classes were aided from the track and are seeking further medical attention. 125 13-u15 yrs: After motos one and two, Jed Beaton and Wilson Todd are tied on 47 points heading into their final race. Sitting 9 points behind is the kiwi Josiah Natzke in 3rd place followed by Connor Tierney with 33 points and Jordan Hill on 27 rounding out the top 5. From there we go back to Caleb Grothues, Callum Norton, Jimmy Griffin, Hunter Lawrence and Brendan Walther, completing the top 10. Therefore Todd and Beaton are the most likely riders to come out as champion, though it all depends on the final moto tomorrow. 85 9-u12 yrs: Mason Rowe from QLD has taken both moto wins ahead of Rhys Budd and heads into the final moto only needing to finish 3rd or better to clinch the title. 3rd place is Mason Semmens on 35 points, then back to Bailey Malkewicz on 34 followed by Caleb Clifton with 32 points. The top 10 is rounded out by Tyler Darby, Jett Lawrence, Callum McGlade, John Bova and Navrin Grothues. 50 7-u9 yrs: After four finals so far, Deegan Mancinelli is sitting on a perfect 100 points with four wins ahead of fellow QLD riders Jackson Camilleri (86 points) and Zach Watson (77 points). Liam Atkinson and Taj Gow-Smith sit in equal 4th on 61 points, with 6th place Ty Kean only one marker behind on 60. He is followed by Connor Towill, Jett Burgess-Stevens, Jak Mohr and Landen Panozzo. 85 14-u16 yrs: Another riding sweeping all of their moto’s so far and sitting on 100 points with only one race to go until the titles is handed over, is the 41 of Kaleb Barham. He has a 16 point lead over NT rider Tyler McCoy, who sits four markers ahead of Travis Silk on 80 points. Next in line is Shane McDonald, chased by Dylan Dukes, Brandon Batson, Cory Watts, Dillon Johnson, Heaton Retjano and Bailey Gudgeon. 85 12-u14 yrs: No doubt whatsoever, that this class has the most mixed results of the week and definitely a points board to prove it. After their first two motos Wade Kirkland sits on 43 points with a 1st and a 4th. Second is Riley Dukes on 36 points with a 2nd and a 7th. Third, kiwi Wyatt Chase has carded a 3rd and a 7th just ahead of Cody Dyce with a 2nd and a 9th. Jy Roberts has scored a 3rd and an 8th. Then we have riders like Hugh Mckay, Cooper Pozniak and Jake McGlashan who have had two consistent results though are looking to move up the ladder. Next in line is Caleb Grothues with a 1st and a DNF, followed by Justin Hart, which just goes to show the huge blend of results in this stacked field. 65 7-u9 yrs: From his four starts, the QLD boy of Brad West has taken every win possible, and heads into the final moto with a 22 point lead over Senna Agius (78 points), then back to Jack Kitchen with 72 points. From there we have a large gap back to Angus Riordan on 55 points followed by Cooper Holroyd, Ryder Kingsford, Luke Johnston, Noah Smerdon, Blake Fox and Jack Graham. 125/250 13-u16 yrs Females: Emma Milesevic is now in the form I expected to see her in three days ago and has dominated her last two motos, now with a six point buffer over Ashleigh McCormick as the ladies head into their final race tomorrow. 3rd is Amy Bartsch, back to Alisha Barrett, Chelsea Carter, Alysha Goullet, Danielle Foot, Lily Kent, Cheyenne Taylor and Ashleigh Camilleri. 65 11-u13 yrs: Heading into their final two motos tomorrow Rhy Budd has taken two wins from Brodie Ellis with one. The pair, currently sitting on 72 and 69 points respectively are separated by only 3 points, with the gap back to 3rd placed rider Mason Rowe almost 20 markers. Patrick Ceh is in 4th with Mitch Outram, Josh Whitehead, Tyler darby, John Bova, Bailey Malkewicz and Jake Williams finishing off the top 10 positions. 125 15 yrs: After three of five finals, Dylan Heaton has two wins from Nathan Crawford’s individual win today. Wayde Carter sits in 3rd place with the gap from first (70) to 2nd (65) and 3rd (64) only 6 points with 50 marks still up for grabs. Matt Hopkins-Talty is running is a solid 4th position, 3 points ahead of Brock Mcleary, back to Cohen Chase, Ty Pearce, Braden Collins, Anaru West and Jake Pruiti. 250 13-u15 yrs: Having only completed only of their three finals today, Egan Mastin leads the points with a race win, continuing his undefeated streak at the 2013 junior nationals. 2nd went to Jed Beaton from Vic, with Wilson Todd having to fight from outside of the top 15 to finish in a distant 3rd place. 4th went to connor Tierney ahead of Joel Adamson, Josiah Natzke, Ryan Eden, Jordan Hill, Liam Whisler and Jimmy Griffin. 65 9-u11 yrs: Another class having only their first of three finals today, with Jett Lawrence stalking Caleb Clifton until the last half lap of the final before making his move into the lead and taking the checkered flag. Clifton finished in a close 2nd from Liam Andrews, Tye Jones (who went down while leading), Simon Harris, Brodie Connolly of NZ, Tyran Rees, Jesse Pearce-Smith, Kipp Adams and Alex Larwood. 85 12-u16 yrs Females: After three of their five finals, Chelsea Carter leads the points with a perfect record of 75 ahead of Danielle Foot and Ashleigh McCormick on a tied 58 points. 4th is Alisha Barrett ahead of Amy Bartsch, Kara Cats, Tanah Airey, Lana Woodhead, Shanara Salafia and Samantha Beecroft. 250 15 yrs: In their first of three finals, the 250 class produced some fantastic racing with Wayde Carter stealing the show. The Victorian, grabbed the early lead, put in some fast laps and then seemingly cruised to the checkered flag three seconds ahead of Dylan Heaton and Nathan Crawford. Heaton and Crawford battled closely then entire moto but the NSW champion was able to maintain his defense to the line. 4th place went to Cohen Chase ahead of Matt Hopkins-Talty, Braden Collins, Jonte Reynders, Brock Mcleary, Ty Pearce and Andy Dinicol. Definitely excited for tomorrow’s racing, I just hope the throat won’t let me down!
