KTM Australian Junior Motocross Championships Update – Day 4 (Shortened update today, posting only top 5 results due to external commitments) Today brought varying weather conditions with heavy downpours of rain interspersed by blue, sunny skies. This was our final day of heat races, as of tomorrow, every event is a race counting toward a national championship. 125 13-u15 yrs: Heat 1 – Jed Beaton controlled this race from early on, setting times over three seconds a lap faster than his closest rival Callum Norton. Beaton was first to the line, in front of Norton, Jackson Coulson, Kaleb Barham and Josiah Natzke from NZ. Heat 2 – Wilson Todd grabbed the lead quickly at the beginning of the race and set about distancing himself from 2nd place rider Hunter Lawrence. The front two finished in this order, followed by Jordan Hill, Caleb Grothues and Brendon Walther. 85 9-u12 yrs: Heat 1 – Rhys Budd dominated this race, and maintained his undefeated streak at this year’s junior nationals, cementing himself as title favourite heading into his finals in both classes. John Bova came from a bad start to get back to 2nd, followed by Tyler Darby, Dante Hyam and Royce Anell. Heat 2 – Mason Rowe led this moto from Mason Semmens for the entire 10 minutes, with Semmens breathing down Rowe’s neck all the way to the checquers – the two should be congratulated for their mature riding effort! 3rd went to a distant Bailey Malkewicz, Liam Andrews and Lachlan Wells rounded out the top 5. 50 7-u9 yrs: FINAL 2 – QLD riders Jackson Camilleri and Deegan Mancinelli started out front and ran in this order until the third lap, where yesterday’s winner Mancinelli mad a move into the lead. Mancinelli went on to win the moto from Camilleri, back to Ty Kean, Taj Gow-Smith and Liam Atkinson. 85 14-u16 yrs: FINAL 2 – Kaleb Barham led from the second turn all the way to the finish, and has now won two from two in the 85 class. 2nd went to Brendon Walther followed by Tyler McCoy, Travis Silk and Shane McDonald. 85 12-u14 yrs: Heat 1 – Wade Kirkland stole the holeshot once again from little fella Cooper Pozniak, and never looked back taking the win with a comfortable 18 second gap back to 2nd Cody Dyce. 3rd was Pozniak, with Hugh Mckay and Justin Hart rounding out the top 5. Heat 2 – Hunter Lawrence snuck into the lead with a great start and had Callum Norton chasing him the whole moto. Lawrence though was just too strong and won by 16 seconds over Norton back to Caleb Grothues, Jye Roberts and Jake McGlashan. 65 7-u9 yrs: FINAL 2 – Angus Riordan grabbed the holeshot, but was quickly relegated back to 2nd as Brad West yesterday’s winner took the lead. West didn’t slow down one bit and charged away from the field all the way to the checquers ahead of Angus Riordan, Jack Kitchen, Jack Graham and Senna Agius. 125/250 13-u16yrs Females: FINAL 2 – Alysha Goullet grabbed the holeshot and led from start to finish ahead of Ashleigh McCormick, Amy Bartsch, Emma Milesevic and Danielle Foot. Goullet rode great as she was pressured by McCormick the entire moto, so definitely a huge congrats to the vic rider! 125 15 years: FINAL 2 – Dylan Heaton put on another clinic today charging hard to take the win from Wayde Carter by over 13 seconds! 3rd place went to Brock Mcleary in front of Nathan Crawford and Matt Hopkins-Talty. Heaton has only lost one race thus far, and looks to be on a roll, so will interesting to see if any other riders can trump the full package of Heaton. 250 13-u15 yrs: Heat 1 – Egan Mastin continued his undefeated streak and qualifies first heading into the finals starting tomorrow. He took the win and the holeshot ahead of Josiah Natzke, Connor Tierney, Cory Rockliff and Jimmy Griffin. Heat 2 – Wilson Todd grabbed the early lead with the holeshot and looked to check out before losing the front end in a slippery corner. Jed Beaton went on to inherit the lead taking the checkers ahead of Todd, Joel Adamson, Luke Abela and Angus Gelly. 65 7-u9 yrs: Heat 1 – This was probably the toughest race of the day with 7 DNF’s due to the rain! Our race winner Kipp Adams kept it upright the entire race and even lapped up to 8th! Caleb Clifton came in 2nd with Alex Larwood 3rd, Matt O’Keefe 4th and Riley Corrigan 5th. Heat 2 – Central Victorian Liam Andrews took the win in the slop, and with that the top qualifying spot heading into tomorrow’s finals! Brodie Connolly from NZ finished in 2nd, followed by Jett Lawrence, Tye Bugeja and Will Riordan. 85 12-u16 yrs Females: FINAL 2 – Another mud affected race, with Danielle Foot grabbing the holeshot and leading until the final lap where Chelsea Carter stole the win. So 2 from 2 for Carter, with Foot, Kara Cats, Amy Bartsch and Ebony Harris rounding out the top 5. 250 15 yrs: Heat 1 – Nathan Crawford snatched a huge holeshot from Yamaha stablemate Dylan Heaton. The gap started at around 3 seconds, but as the race wore on Heaton moved up onto the back of Crawford and remained there until the checkered flag. This was a great race with teriffic riding from both riders. Andy Dinicol came home in 3rd, with some excellent riding and well set up passes! Jonte Reynders was 4th with Jake Pruiti rounding out the top 5. Heat 2 – Wayde Carter took another convincing win (30 seconds ahead) ahead of Matt Hopkins-Talty and in the process qualified first heading into tomorrow’s finals. Following Talty was Brock Mcleary, Zak Small and Kiwi Cohen Chase. The big races start tomorrow, and I feel the excitement levels will go through the roof and I may possible lose my voice! Can’t wait!!!
