KU, RTI sensitisation prog for North Zone NSS volunteers ans students Srinagar Nov 5: A sensitization programme on RTI Act (2009) was organized by the University of Kashmir through the Department of NSS for North Zone Volunteers and College students on 5th of November, 2014. The programme was conducted in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir RTI Commission and the Degree College for Women, Baramulla. A University spokesman said that the college faculty, large number of students, NSS volunteers and various members of the Civil Society participated in the event. The function was graced by the Hon’ble Chief Information Commission, J&K Mr. G. R. Sufi; Shri R. K. Bhat, Additional District Development Commissioner, Baramulla; J&K RTI Coordinator, Prof. H. G. Mustafa; Principal Degree College for Women, Prof. Maqsooda Khan; Er. Kaiser Rashid, NSS Programme Officer; Dr. Ajaz Akbar and others. In her speech the Programme Coordinator, NSS Prof. Neelofer Khan thanked the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Khursheed Iqbal Andrabi for his keen interest in Community Development Programmes. She emphasized the role of NSS in providing awareness to public with regard to RTI rules and regulations. She also highlighted the role of Educational Institutions for their eminent position in society to offer services in such a noble cause. She said that they therefore need training to rise-up for such a role. The CIC Jenab G. R. Sufi while addressing the gathering focused on the significance of RTI Act and sought greater involvement of public and all concerned in the process of RTI. He also appreciated the role of NSS, Kashmir University for holding such events. The RTI Coordinator Prof. H. G. Mustafa in his address said that RTI is an endeavor to promote transparency and people have the right to seek information under the control of public authorities. The Principal, Govt. Degree College, Baramullah, Dr. Maqsooda Khan also informed students and the NSS volunteers regarding the importance of RTI awareness programmes as an extension education to their academics. Dr. Ajaz Akbar, an expert on the occasion delivered an extensive lecturer on the topic “Empowering People through RTI”. His efforts were highly appreciated for emphasizing the role of Human Resource Management and RTI. The NSS, Project Officer Er. Kaisar Rashid informed the gathering about the NSS programmes and said, the NSS, University of Kashmir is doing a good job in the field of social service and shall definitely accelerate such programmes for the community betterment and especially for the awareness and sensitization of student community for being the better futuristic state-holders of a learned society.
