KUKN Featured Artist: Jake Owen *Jake Owen was born on August 28, 1981 in Vero Beach, Florida. Jake started playing golf when he was young, and eventually pursued the sport as a professional career. *When Owen was in college at Florida State University, he was injured in a wakeboarding accident. The injury caused him to have reconstructive surgery on his shoulder, which forced him to give up on playing golf as a career. However, the injury left him in a sling and thats when he started playing the guitar. *Soon he was playing gigs at local bars and writing his own songs. Jake soon made the move to Nashville and his music was eventually heard by a publishing company. Even though the publishing company didn’t sign him, his music caught the attention of different songwriters in the business. *Owen soon met record producer and songwriter Jimmy Ritchey and the two of them, along with songwriter Chuck Jones, penned a song called Ghost. The song caught the attention of Sony Nashville executives, who later signed Jake to their RCA Records label in 2005. *Owen released his debut single Yee Haw in 2006 and the song climbed into the top 20 on the chart. Jakes debut album, Startin with Me, was released in July of 2006. Owen co-wrote all of the records eleven tracks. *Jakes third studio album, Barefoot Blue Jean Night, was released in August of 2011. The album’s lead single and title track eventually became his first number one single on the country chart. The album’s second single, Alone with You as well as the third single, The One That Got Away both matched the success of the records lead single and topped the chart. The albums fourth single Anywhere with You was released earlier this year, and it became his fourth number one song in July. *In August of last year, Owen released a single titled Days of Gold that peaked in the Top 15 on the chart. Days of Gold was the lead single and title-track from Jakes fourth studio album, which was released in December. Jakes current single Beachin was released to country radio earlier this year and already sits in the Top 30 on the chart. The music video for Beachin was directed by Mason Dixon and was shot at Daytona Beach, Florida. *Owen married his wife Lacey Buchanan in his hometown of Vero Beach on May 7, 2012. The couple became engaged after Owen proposed to Buchanan onstage in front of a hometown crowd. The couples first child, daughter Olive Pearl, was born on Thanksgiving Day of 2012. *Last month, Jake took part in the AT&T Pebble Beach National PRO-AM Celebrity Challenge in Monterey, California. During the golf tournament, Owen was teamed up with professional golfer Jordan Spieth, who is ranked number 13 in the world. Owen was also scheduled to headline the San Antonio Rodeo that weekend, so he boarded a plane and flew to San Antonio to perform for a crowd of 16,000 fans at the rodeo. *The Players Championship has announced that Owen will perform on May 7, as part of the annual golf tournaments Military Appreciation Day. Jakes performance will take place on the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse Lawn and conclude a day of special activities and programs that celebrate the men and women of the Armed Forces. *Owens headlining Days of Gold Tour will kick off on March 20 and will run through October including at stop August 3rd for a sold-out concert at the Gorge at George Washington.
