KUTANDARA MU STUDIO part1 CREATING A HIT SONG The music industry is so unpredictable,a serious gamble, that can be worse than a casino. One of the biggest gamble is making a hit song. Most musicians leave the studio thinking they have created a hit,but the music can be released and go quiet as if nothing has been released.I have witnessed some musicians recording a song as an extra song just to fulfill the album list then the song suprisingly and unexpectadly becomes a huge smash hit &puts them on the map. Some artists make their first hit on the first album, but the majority of artists are not that lucky, some might even make a hit after even more than 7albums.But once you make a hit people start looking for,and buying your first recordings, the very albums they ignored in the first place. There is no fool proof fomular for making a hit,But there are guidelines&tips,&if you study all hits locally&internationally, they are all crafted along those guidelines. WHISTLE TEST This theory has been used for years by a lot of pop music composers, the theory suggests that if a song can not be whistled then its too complicated to be a hit. LISTENER FRIENDLY: Usually songs that make it to be hits are listener friendly, which means they are easy to understand, composed&perfomed with the ordinary man in the street in mind.It should not be music only for those that attended colleges of music. It should be simple enough to be remembered but different enough to be interesting. EARWORM: I think every once in a while we come across a song that keeps playing in your head even after listening to it once, sometimes it could be a song with a message that you really dont like,or perfomed in a genre that you dont like, but still you cant get it off your mind, those types of songs are called earworms, music that sticks to your brain with or without your permission LYRICS: Usually lyrics of hit songs stick to the topic of the song, you do not struggle to understand what the singer is trying to say HOOK: Almost every hit song has a hook,a hook is a very simple usually repetitive music idea whether sung or played on an instrument, that is used to catch the ear of the listener.Usually the hook is found in the chorus, its an ear worm that is very easy to remember.for example the chorusBatai munhuon Sulumani Chimbetus Sean Timba,or theNdafunga Dande, vakomana ndafunga Dandeon Tukus dzoka uyamwe.a hook stands out, easy to remember and has commercial value .In hip hop the hook is the catchy choruses sung or chanted in between the verses repeatedly throughout the song. See you in the groove garage
