KWANKWASO SIGNS REVISED KANO LOCAL GOVT. BILL INTO LAW Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso of Kano state has signed into law the Kano state Pension and Gratuity Amendment No-2, 2007 bill into law. Basically, the law stipulates that local government employees in the state that have been on grade levels 14-15, for eight years, must retire from service. Shortly after signing the bill at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Kano Governor Kwankwaso said the law will drastically reduce stagnation in career progression in the local government service. However, the law, according to the governor, will not affect the teachers because their services are very essential. The governor maintained that the law will allow for young and more vibrant people to contribute more meaningfully to grassroots service delivery, stressing is not aimed at victimizing anyone. “A situation whereby a person sits in one position for several years, in fact I know somebody who has been in one position for about 27 years, without moving up to the next level is detrimental to the service and this is unacceptable to us”, governor Kwankwaso explained. Governor Kwankwaso then called on the civil servants to be more dedicated and committed to the service in order to achieve maximum result. Meanwhile, the governor received 12 Police cadets and five military officers, of the state origin, who recently graduated into the officers’ cadre from the Police Academy, Wudil and NDA, Zaria. He assured that his administration will continue to support sons and daughters of the state to excel in their chosen careers and urged the young Army and Police officers that visited him to be good ambassadors of the state.
