KX65 Rear Shock updated info: Ian Garrett was kind enough to share his rear shock choice with me and I stuffed an 08-09 ZX10R rear shock in my chassis. After racing on it and messing with the clickers I can tell you without a doubt its a considerably better shock choice over the SV650 shock. The shock will go for about $80-$100 on Ebay, which is 30 to 40 bucks more than the SV shock but youll get way more bang for your buck. The spring rate is heavier then the SV so it works perfect for me at 180lbs without having to wind in too much spring preload. The compression and rebound dampening is adjustable so you get a solid shock with plenty of adjustment. The shock fits into the frame the same as the SV shock. The top mount is the same thickness as the SV shock but the bottom clevis is just a tiny bit wider. You will want to use a bottom bolt that has a very thin head and perhaps trim off any extra threads on the back end. That and a few washers to shim between the cradle and the clevis and youre done. I chose a allen head bolt with a low profile for my bottom mount. You could find a bolt like this at Marshals here in San Diego. The only catch with this shock choice is the air box. While the reservoir for the dampening circuits clears the frame, it sits at the top amount and rests on the backside of the shock if youre sitting on the bike. I am running the PWK carb so I dont have an air box. You might be able to make this shock still work with the stock air box but youd most likely be carving some of the air box out to make it fit. Its wider in diameter than the SV shock as well so the intake boot may rub more. I highly recommend this shock if youre over 170lbs to about 200lbs. If youre a lighter rider you could easily use the SV shock and be good. Remember that a softer shock gives the rear tire more grip so dont go with someone too stiff just to get adjustable dampening circuits. If I hear of any other shock choices that fit this chassis Ill share the info.
