Kaduna North: Ex-aide challenges Makarfi A former aide to Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi has indicated interest to contest against his former boss for the Kaduna North Senatorial seat on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Alhaji Nuhu Sani Ibrahim who served as information commissioner and later chief of staff to Makarfi said in a letter of intent to the PDP in the state that he decided to go for the senate seat because of the calls from his supporters. Makarfi who has been in the Senate since 2007 after serving as Kaduna State governor for eight years is also interested in re-contesting. But Ibrahim in his letter said he would challenge his former boss “on the heels of credible calls received from our party members and interest groups who are desirous of fresh ideas at the level of representation,” saying “I am the alternative candidate.” He said he would soon obtain the party’s nomination form in view of the “widespread disenchantment” about Makarfi’s performance, adding that his coming out would prevent the former governor from being a life-time senator.
