Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmed Abubakar Gumi, has said if the military had not interrupted civil rule in the past, Nigeria would have been better by now. I stand to differ on his assertion, the problem was not the military invasion and intervention but mainly i can deduced that Nigeria is not ripe and ready for the independence in 1960. We clamoured for and got independence when we are not prepared and ready for it. If the colonial master had stayed longer and prepare us for the independence and groom leaders that would take over, this country would have done and progress better than what we have now. Apart from our unreadiness for the independence, Nigeria problem is also based on bad leadership. Both the military and civilians have failed Nigerians because we always project the worst of us to govern over the best and brightest of us. It is high time we change this trend, and begin to promote the best and the brightest to the position of leadership.
