Kaelyn suffers from a rare disorder that causes allergic reactions. JJ has the ability to detect when Kaelyn is about to have a reaction , so the doctors wanted the dog were standing next to the girl during the surgery he underwent . Kaelyn is a seven year old girl who lives in North Carolina (USA) 18 months ago and was paired with a service dog named JJ to help her rare disease known as mast cell activation syndrome . JJ was rescued from an animal shelter and trained to alert when Kaelyn mast cells act abnormally. The child s disease makes your body react to chemicals without knowing the reason that causes the allergy. Reactions can range from a simple flushing of the face to rare outcomes such as reduction in blood pressure that could eventually make you heart attacks. Kaelyn used to have three to four severe reactions every year, but with the dog at his side only had a severe reaction in 18 months. JJ is able to alert the reactions of the child, it is as if noticing the symptoms. JJ is trained to fetch the Epipen and take it to the parents of Kaelyn .
