KaiNiue Food Festival This event is designed to showcase our extraordinary local foods to the world and to learn from culinary experts’ new ways to prepare, cook and present our food. This event is designed to support our growing tourism market by raising the standard of food preparation and presentation and contemporising our offering. Festivals are a central contribution to local vitality and provide focus and stimulus for cultural tourism. We recognise that festivals are important mechanisms for celebrating and highlighting strength of culture which makes our place distinctive, and engendering pride in our local community. It also makes a practical contribution in terms of sustainability, providing employment, encouraging learning and inspiring people to adopt creative new ways of doing things. Running for 4 days from Friday 19th September to Monday 22nd September 2014 the programme has been designed to appeal to the widest audience and includes cultural community food events, junior chef challenge, celebrity international chef demonstrations matched with NZ wines, and tropical cocktail parties, culminating in a spectacular gala dinner – all under a tropical sky. KaiNiue will feature 3 guest chefs - Michael Meredith (Samoan), Alex Kaihea (Tongan),Robert Oliver (host of Real Pacific) and Sommelier - Ismo Kisko, as well as well-known food writer Helen Jackson, who will be hosting a food tour of the island during the festival.
