Kaibigan Ministry The Kaibigan Ministry Vision: We see street people being transformed by the power and love of God into individuals and families who are living out the fruit of the Holy Spirit, are productive citizen of the Philippines, and who are serving God by serving others. CCT’s work among street dwellers began in 2005 with a simple Saturday dawn feeding-cum-Bible study program held outside the building in Manila where CCT has its support office. The ministry has since grown into a broad range of programs and services meant to assimilate street dwellers, referred to as Kaibigan (Filipino word for friend), back into mainstream society. The Kaibigan Ministry aims to restore the dignity of street dwelling persons as individuals created in the image and likeness of God. It has four phases of work among Kaibigans: 1. Trust Building & Discipleship Street Fellowship Feeding Evangelistic Camp/Encounter God Retreats Counseling 2. Access to Social Services Health & Medical Care Balik-Probinsiya Insurance Educational Assistance Temporary shelter 3. Family & Community Life Re-integration Re-settlement Agri-based/ livestock enterprises Food production 4. Economic Opportunities Livelihood/Enterprise Skills training Janitorial services Business mentoring/ counseling Income generating projects/enterprises The Kaibigang Maaasahan Multi-Purpose Cooperative (KMMC) is the first cooperative in the Philippines with a membership composed of former street dwellers. The cooperative helps address the economic needs of street dwellers through its enterprise development program where members are given access to business/livelihood opportunities and are trained to manage their own enterprises. This experience will prepare them to eventually support themselves and their families out of their own income. The KMMC Vision We see a Cooperative of street dwellers owning land, managing enterprises, becoming successful contractors, undertaking collective action against injustice, and living in a community of God-fearing individuals and families. The Kaibigan Community Center in Pasay City is the hub from which CCT serves street dwellers. It houses toilet, bath and laundry facilities, a pre-school, clinic, second-hand clothes store, water station, kitchen where affordable meals may be bought, and the KMMC offices. The Kaibigan Village in Cabanatuan City is envisioned to be a Christ-centered, entrepreneurial, self-reliant community of transformed former street dwellers. It will be home to men, women, and children who used to be homeless, a place where they will have a stable means of income, and a place to build and nurture their families. As of March 2012, 12 families have been resettled here and have been trained in agriculture, aquaculture, poultry farming, and goat raising. The Kaibigan Village Vision We see the Kaibigan Village as model farms providing livelihood, food supply and other resources to the Kaibigan Community, and serving as an income-generating venture for KMMC. CCT has two boarding schools for children born on the streets. Children of former and current street dwelling families attend two residential schools in the province of Laguna. There they are provided with Christian education, spiritual direction, and a stable, structured environment that will help them successfully move from a troubled background of street dwelling to life in mainstream society. Girls and boys below the age of 10 live at the Rose of Sharon House of Friendship compound. Boys beyond 10 years are enrolled at the Magdelena campus of the Training and Development Institute where they catch up on grade school and high school credits through the Alternative Learning System. The campus has an excellent sports program that develops teamwork and a goal-oriented mindset among the boys through swimming and soccer.
