Kailey Spear CASTING Short Film - Son in the Barbershop Director: Nathan Douglas Casting Directors: Kailey and Samantha Spear Synopsis While getting his hair cut at the neighbourhood barbershop, a teenage boy overhears a middle aged businessman’s telephone conversation with his own presumably estranged son. As he eavesdrops on their call, the boy begins to quietly mutter his own responses to the father’s strained queries. As their words collide and part, two broken worlds slowly wind into a double helix of bitterness, regret, and filial love. Son In The Barbershop is a one-shot, one-take short film seeking to explore the power of real time performance in a tightly focused setting. Running time: 8-10 min. Character Breakdown Businessman (age 40-59) - Still recovering from his year old divorce, estranged from his teenage son, and stuck in a rumpled white-collar job, “Businessman” is taking it one day at a time. To those around him at any given moment, he’s just another fast talking, somewhat obnoxious, Bluetooth-toting suit, but his sporadic communication with his only son reminds him on a biweekly basis how much he’s lost - and how truly ragged he is inside.If he had more gumption, he’d probably fill his weekend with one night stands, but that takes the sort of energy he can’t summon anymore.
