Kaipo Needs A Foster Home To Get Healthy Again This little girl (were calling her Kaipo, which means Sweetheart in Hawaiian) needs some extra love and attention to ensure that she gets her second chance at life. Kaipo arrived as a stray and has proven to be a very calm, gentle-natured soul. She is extremely obedient and craves affection. She is dog-friendly, but is very submissive so would do best with another low-key, dog-friendly dog. Kaipo sailed through her behavior assessment and was approved for adoption, but upon further evaluation she was discovered to be heartworm positive. While on the outside, she appears happy and healthy, little Kaipo will need to undergo treatment to rid her of this deadly (if allowed to go untreated) parasite. Dr. Faraone, with the help of the Friends of DCACC Foundation Critical Care Fund, are ready and willing to treat and cure Kaipo. But to give her the best possible chances at treatment and recovery, Kaipo will need a foster home where she can rest in quiet and comfort while she heals. Heartworm foster can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks, depending on length of treatment required. And will require 3-4 visits to the DCACC shelter for checkups and treatment during that time. For the remainder of that time Kaipo will only need to be monitored to ensure that she does not overexert herself (she can be left crated when not at home). Normal walks and cuddles are fine. Just no running, jumping, or dog play during her treatment. To foster Kaipo, please complete DCACCs foster application ( https://mlsvc01-prod.s3.amazonaws/2b6b83c7001/6886294c-5c5f-4d67-8ae9-0c9aedf27be3.pdf ) and return to the DCACC shelter in person, via fax to (630) 407-2801 or email to [email protected]. Please indicate that you are applying to foster Kaipo. We will verify that any dogs/cats in your home are current on rabies vaccines. If you have another dog at home, we will arrange for a dog-to-dog introduction at the shelter. Thank you for helping us get this lovely girl back on the road to adoption and for helping DCACC maintain ZERO!
